    Italian Opera Gala, Orchestra Filarmonica di Lucca

    To be held on 18 December 2016, the Orchestra Filarmonica di Lucca will interpret some of the best-known works of the great operatic composers, including Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini in this annual Italian Opera Gala. The stunningly beautiful Great Hall of the Viennese Musikverein will be a fitting stage for such a well-regarded orchestra performing works like 'Una furtiva lagrima' from The Elixir of love and 'Nessun dorma' from Turandot. The famous overture to Mozart's captivating singspiel The Magic Flute will also feature in a programme which has something for everyone.

    The Italian orchestra is rightly well-known for its work performing Puccini. After all, the great composer was born in the Tuscan city of Lucca in 1858. It is regularly involved in the festival dedicated to his music that takes place in their home city. For the performance in Vienna, the Orchestra Filarmonica di Lucca will be under the musical direction of Andrea Colombini, President of the Puccini Festival of Lucca.

    The choral elements of the performance will be provided by the Coro lirico della Versilia whilst the superb principal singers are drawn from some of the most talented vocalists. Three tenors, two sopranos, one baritone and one bass will take on the famous arias in the programme of this auspicious evening of operatic delights.

    The Italian Opera Gala is not to be missed by any classical music fans and will be of particular interest to those who enjoy opera in concert.
